BAND ...origin......... Although, not a serious band name, the music of DoomSquirrel should not be taken lightly (uhm, pun intended, I guess). The name itself, originated at the doom-metal.com forums. Some board members there, have adopted a squirrel persona, and began using squirrels for avatars, myself, being one of these people. I had some ideas, and concepts for a darkwave/drone/funeral crossover band for a while. I was not, however, content to just give these ideas a 'typical' doom persona. Once the name DoomSquirrel originated, I knew that I had found what I was looking for. .....members... M. Zuchowski - guitars/synths/vocals/drum programming A. Tolonen - kantele ...history.......... The project came to life on the 24th of November, 2003... and in just two days time, much had been done... including the recording of all music for an EP (though vocals, have yet to be recorded)... artwork for the EP... and of course, this website. In early 2004, DoomSquirrel signed to NULLL Records. In September of 2004, A. Tolonen joined as a kantele player, and DoomSquirrel evolved from project to a band, albeit a long distance once. .....the music.... Describing the sound of a band, is not something that I'm capable of doing to any degree of satisfaction. The most accurate sound, would be something like a minimalistic cross between darkwave, and funeral/drone doom metal. Of course, there are always the influences which can be mentioned. These are: Fall Of The Grey-Winged One, and Mortiis mainly... but to a lesser extent, the music of Skepticism, Wongraven, Neptune Towers, Thergothon, and Dreams Of Dying Stars has been influential in helping to shape the DoomSquirrel sound, as well. .........squirrels?... I've been fascinated with these creatures for a year or so now. Indeed, hand-feeding wild squirrels is a favourite pasttime of mine. Of course, squirrels don't really have anything to do with doom... but no matter... I wanted something a little different for this project. |
